A snow day depends on more than one weather variable. This tool combines forecast snowfall, snow probability, minimum temperature and winter-weather conditions into a simple 0–100 planning score. The score helps explain the forecast; it does not replace an official school or transportation decision.
Snowfall Forecast
Forecast snowfall is the largest part of the model, with up to 40 points. Higher expected accumulation contributes more to the score because substantial snow can affect roads, sidewalks and travel conditions.
Chance of Snow
Snow probability contributes up to 30 points. A higher probability means the forecast has stronger support for snow during the selected day. Probability is still a forecast measure, not a guarantee.
Freezing Temperatures
The minimum forecast temperature contributes up to 20 points. Colder overnight conditions can increase the potential for icy or difficult travel, although actual road conditions depend on many local factors.
Winter Weather Conditions
The model adds a winter-condition bonus when forecast wording contains terms such as snow, heavy snow, freezing rain, sleet, ice or blizzard. This adds context without treating one weather phrase as a closure decision.
Wind Chill & Outdoor Conditions
The hourly section separately considers feels-like temperature, wind and precipitation to identify periods that may be more comfortable outdoors. This is useful for daily planning but is not part of the published 100-point snow-day score.

Wind chill describes how cold the air can feel when wind is combined with the actual temperature. The hourly outdoor section uses feels-like temperature and wind information to help identify more comfortable periods, while the snow-day score separately uses forecast minimum temperature.

Yes. Canadian postal codes are supported. The tool first resolves a Canadian postal code through a geocoding service and then uses the resulting coordinates for the weather request.
Can I use my current location?
Yes. Select Use My Location and allow your browser to provide location access. The tool then requests weather for the detected coordinates and reverse-geocodes them to display a nearby place name.
Does a high score guarantee a snow day?
No. A high score indicates that the forecast contains more of the winter-weather factors used by this model. It does not guarantee a school closure, bus cancellation or workplace closure.
